In-Person Workshop

Hand Embossing with Viktor Kams

Embossing or debossing on paper are highly visual and very elegant techniques to combine with calligraphy. If you have ever seen works from calligraphers using this technique and have wondered how it is done, this workshop is for you.

Viktor will demonstrate the process of hand embossing techniques from the first sketching steps to the cutting of our template and to the actual embossing itself, plus some final touches for a clean and crisp embossing piece.

He will show monoline calligraphy most times because it is generally easier in the cutting step as we avoid thinner strokes which are more difficult in the beginning. I will show you a few works rendered in this technique and we will talk about the challenges and details of each piece, as well as composition basics when combining embossing with calligraphy.
