Our 50th Anniversary is approaching!

The Society of Scribes will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in September 2024, and naturally we are planning an exciting array of events to honor the occasion, and we invite your participation.

Ward Dunham, noted calligrapher and an original Founding Member, designed the strikingly beautiful and dynamic anniversary logo. Ward’s wife, Linnea Lundquist, calligrapher and award-winning type designer, contributed by digitizing the design.

A number of special events and exhibitions, both online and in person are being planned, as well as a commemorative journal celebrating the history—and future!—of the Society, and it is particularly here that we invite you to play a part!

Take a walk (or two!) down Memory Lane and gather your workshop photos, showing you at work and play with your classmates and instructors. Go through your files and assemble a “Then and Now” folder, showing how far your lettering and designing sensibilities have come. Write your thoughts about what Society of Scribes has meant to you, how calligraphy may have impacted your related interests, or how you have introduced it to your friends, family, children or students. As plans become more definite, we will notify you of specifics, such as how to submit your work and photos.

Last but not least, we will need volunteers to make all of these events happen. In the coming months we will let you know what areas we need help with so you can decide how you might like to participate.

We hope you're excited as we are. Thanks, and stay tuned!
